{Flying High}

We awoke yesterday to the most glorious blue sky, speckled ever so slightly with fluffy, marshmallow clouds, a day that could not have been any more perfect for Jeremiah’s Kite Party.

It’s official, Jeremiah is One – there is no more 11 months, no more nearly One, the day has arrived and he is One.  He looks suddenly older to me, but still as delicious as ever (I am his mumma after all!)

So to the Kite Party, what was I thinking - I started with Blue sky and lush green grass, added in outdoors flying kites, and outdoors in the park takes me to gingham, throw in some yummy treats and this is what I ended up with…Jeremiah’s Dessert Table!

Gorgeous little bottles of juice, Jars of Lollies (we had M&M’s, Bon Petite, Spearmint Leaves and Jelly Beans), Individual Milk Chocolates.

Homemade Vanilla Meringue, Little Jelly Pots, Fairy Floss

Vanilla Bean Kite Cookies, Vanilla Bean cupcakes, and the cutest cloud Marshmallows.

The cake!

Krispy Kreme Doughnuts and Caramel Popcorn.

After our Lunch and a serious sugar rush, the children donned their paint clothes and set about creating a masterpiece on the Kite kits I had purchased.  A little drying time (mmm more time for some sugar) and then the kites were created.  We live opposite an open reserve, the perfect place to test out each child’s new handiwork.  They worked a treat.  Children (and a few adults) were running in all directions, colourful kites were everywhere.  It worked out the ideal finish to a wonderful day.

We couldn’t be happier with how the day turned out, and I must say Jeremiah enjoyed himself, especially his first ever taste of cake.  I think he is hooked.

Details/Suppliers:-

Bottles – Santa Vittoria nectar bottles available from Woolworths

Straws – I actually brought mine in last year from America, but I have noticed that they are now becoming available throughout Australia. (e.g. Details, details)

Jars and Jelly pots - all my own, and most I have had for a while now.

Milk Chocolates – Cadbury Furry Friends that I wrapped (available from Woolworths)

Cake, cupcakes, Meringues and Cookies – Homemade

Little Cloud Marshmallows – found these in Coles.

Caramel popcorn stand – I bought these Frames at Christmas time last year from Domayne, and Joe replaced the glass etc with MDF for me and drilled 12 holes.  We then gave it another coat of white paint so it all worked and added in legs we picked up from Bunnings.  It works a treat.  I also have plain MDF so that I can use them as a standard tray as well.  I can also restore all the standard glass fittings and add a nice paper underneath to dress it up a little.

Kite kits – Air Wares.

Clouds and Gingham Kite I made.

I’ve come via Sharnel’s ‘My Life My loves’ and have been so inspired! My youngest son will be turning 1 in October and I am already starting to plan his ‘In The Night Garden’ party. I love love LOVE what you’ve done – it’s amazing. Can you please tell me where you got the fake grass and how you made the fairy floss and drinks blue (i’m guessing food colouring in the drinks..). Anyway, you must be so proud of this because it is simply incredible – and of course your little boys is 1! Happy Birthday buddy.

Thank you all for your beautiful comments. I had such a great time preparing this party for Jeremiah, and the fact that you like it as well makes my heart so very happy. Thank you, thank you, thank you xxxx

Mira, I picked up the artificial grass from Amber Tiles. It wasn’t the cheapest option, but I already have a few more party ideas brewing that I know I can use it on, so it was more of a long term investment. They did have a cheaper option at Flower Power, however for me it was not the right shade of green. The blue juice is from Woolworths, it was the only blue drink I could find and it is one that my children have had before. I searched for it at Coles, but I didn’t see it there. The brand is Pop Tops and the drink is called Cool Blue, they come in a pack of six. You should find them in the children’s popper section. The blue fairy floss took me forever to find. I searched and I could easily find places in SA, WA and QLD that would supply blue fairy floss, but not in NSW, and every store either sold a mixed bag or pink. I just happened to be out at Penrith last weekend, as they have a rather large Spotlight out there, and in the Westfield’s they have a stand, near Hoyts, that sells hot corn and fairy floss. She was making pink, but had blue sugar on hand, so I asked if she would make me some blue and she did – whoo hoo! I don’t know where you are, but I hope that helps you.

Amy, no problem, thank you!

WOW!!! Absolutely adorable! GREAT JOB! I’m blown away :)

MiraJune 22, 2010 - 3:43 pm

Thank you so much for that Tracey – you’re a gem (and a very talented one too). I did look at the fake grass online: who would ever have guessed that there are so many types?! It was quite mind-boggling and I do realise I will just need to go into these places to see the grass myself so that I get the right shade too. I’m on Sydney’s North Shore so Penrith is a little far. I may need to come up with something different. That’s okay… plenty of time still. Thanks again. xxx

Came across your beautiful website and blog and I’m in love with your photography, design, displays, well.. everything! I was curious as to what you used for the smooth blue table backdrop. Also, how large is it? It’s so wonderfully perfect! Would you mind sharing? :) Thank you!

Lisa @ Cake-tini EventsJune 23, 2010 - 1:09 am

Unbelievable…I’m so excited that I found this. It’s absolutely amazing and the details are just perfect…Love it…Love it…

TraceyJune 23, 2010 - 10:27 am

Hi Michele,

The backdrop is MDF (available from Hardware stores) attached to a timber frame, that was then painted – I am married to a builder, he comes in handy ;-) . It is floor to ceiling, so approx 2.4m and is as wide as my table so 2m. Hope that helps x
